A Short History
Carter and Bookman invented it in 1950; Mattel made it famous (source: Wikipedia). His first version was the Syco-Slate tube; Brunswick Billiards ordered the black ball shape, Dr. Lucien Cohen wrote the 20 answers, and inside: a 20-sided die in dark blue liquid.

Ask a Question It Can Answer
Beach or cinema? Ask, “Beach today — yes or no?” Spin: “Outlook good.” Beach it is. The ball only speaks yes or no — “When will we win?” has no answer here. Ask once, or best of three.
Two Party Rules
Best of three: spin three times, count yes-style answers. Two or more, the plan goes ahead.
Prediction board: before a match, everyone asks the same question; the magic 8 ball wheel saves each spin for checking afterwards. Woody does the same in Toy Story (1995) — “Don’t count on it” starts a fight (source: Wikipedia). House rule: snacks, not money or health.
Make It Your Own
Plain list: add jokes, drop the “not yet” five, run best-of-three. For two-way choices, try our yes or no wheel; for bigger lists, the random decision maker takes any set.
